Contract: Fixed term, touring

Contract Dates: Starts W/C 2 November 2026 with one week of rehearsals at Three Mills Studios followed by tech week W/C 09 November 2026 at Plymouth Theatre Royal. The first public performance is scheduled to be on Monday 16 November and the contract will terminate following the final performance in Edinburgh on Saturday 8 May 2027.

Weekly Salary: £1005.80

Allowances: We follow the Equity / CTA rate for living away allowance which is currently £350 per week for accommodation for each touring week (including any London performance weeks) that is more than 25 miles from your home address.  This rate is due to be increased but we are yet to receive that from Equity so we will inform you when we have that information.

Subsistence: As above, the Equity / CTA rate is currently 65% of the Living Away Allowance for each week of rehearsals if you live outside London and can’t commute.

About the Role

As Head of Stage, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of all stage and scenic elements of the production. The role supports the Production Carpentry team in all aspects of construction, operation and maintenance of scenery in each venue.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading with the carpentry team on all aspects of planning, construction and maintenance of the physical elements of the production.
  • To assist in the get-in, fit-up and get-outs as required, including leading and coordinating the truck packs.
  • To assist the crew in the safe operation of all scenery and stage effects.
  • To undertake the safe operation of all counterweight and mechanized flying of scenery inline with the local venue’s Fly’s HOD, to spot and ensure all local crew are fully briefed in all the cues.
  • To prepare cue sheets for all show stage staff as well as teach stage plots on the first show days to local crew.
  • Assist in ensuring all scenery is flying safely and run dry techs with the SM team prior to each tech rehearsal.
  • To ensure that all scenery is maintained to a high standard and in safe working order.
  • In conjunction with the Production Carpenters, ensure all scenery is unpacked and prepared at each venue of the tour.
  • Cover the Stage Manager as required.
  • Always Adhere to the Health & Safety regulations of the company.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience working in a production carpentry/head of stage role, ideally within touring theatre.
  • Confident in leading and coordinating teams in busy touring environments.
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of scenery, stage effects and flying systems.
  • Confident in operating counterweight and mechanised flying systems safely.
  • Experience with get-ins, fit-ups, get-outs and truck packs.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety protocol in a theatre environment.
  • Organised and able to prepare cue sheets, stage plots and technical information.
  • Ability to work closely with Stage Management and Production Teams, depping for the Stage manager where necessary.
  • Reliable, adaptable and comfortable working as part of a touring system.
