The LX1 will operate the lighting desk during performances, lead on the move/re-light of the production at each venue and line manage the LX2.

Contract Type: Full-time, fixed-term
Dates of Employment: September 2026 until May 2027
Typical show schedule (subject to change: performances are 6 days per week either Monday – Saturday or Tuesday – Sunday depending on each venue’s schedule
Salary: £1074 per playing week, plus Touring Allowance and Travel Payments
Responsible To: General Manager and Company Stage Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Looking after the show’s lighting system and operating the LX desk during shows
  • Re-lighting the show at each tour venue
  • Scheduling the LX department and line managing the LX2
  • Training and supervising additional members of the LX team including in-house Followspot Operators and Deps
  • Learning other plots within your department and providing absence cover where necessary
  • Checking/maintaining the lighting rig and LED pixel tape
  • Supervising the maintenance/preparation of the rig
  • Assisting with the get-out at each tour venue
  • Attending all rehearsals, show/maintenance calls, get-in/get-outs as required, including emergency calls in the event of equipment failure or equivalent
  • Maintaining the Production under the instruction of the Creative Team
  • Working with other departments, cast and creatives in order to ensure the smooth running of the show
  • Ensuring all LX equipment is maintained to a high standard, and reporting areas where repair is necessary
  • Compiling and filing updated show paperwork, both soft and hard copy
  • Working in accordance with the Producer and Venue’s Health & Safety policies, and attending training as needed
  • Any other reasonable duty that may fall under the remit of an LX1 based on industry norms and practices.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience as LX1 on a West End or No 1 Touring musical
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident working with and operating lighting technology including MIDI Show Control, Time Code and Eos programming
  • Comfortable working at height
  • Previous experience in calling follow spots
  • Previous experience in maintaining moving and generic lighting fixtures
  • Previous experience of operating the lighting desk on a musical
  • A calm and proactive approach to technical troubleshooting
  • The ability work well under pressure and effectively prioritise
  • Awareness of current health and safety legislation
  • Strong pastoral skills.
