As Head of Sound, you would be responsible for the operation and maintenance of all sound equipment. You will be responsible for maintaining an accurate and appropriate recreation of the sound designers design throughout the production.

The role would commence in late August 2026 until Monday 30 November.

The below job description is not exhaustive but is meant as an outline of duties and responsibilities required to fulfil the role of Sound Operator.

  • Operating the sound equipment for each performance as instructed by the Sound Designer.
  • Attend all get-in, fit-up and get-out days as required (standard day off will be Monday, so get-ins not usually expected).
  • To operate sound equipment during technical and dress rehearsals or at other times as required.
  • To teach and prepare the Technical Swing to provide cover for the sound mix and operation.
  • Preparation of cue sheets.
  • Coordination and supervision of the get-out of sound equipment at each venue.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all equipment is maintained and in safe working order.
  • To run equipment checks prior to each performance.
  • Attend rehearsals, get-ins and outs for all performance unless on a scheduled day off as required.
  • To facilitate any post-show Q&A’s and access performances.
  • Attend to the health and safety guidelines of the company.

Allowances:  

We follow the Equity / CTA rate for living away allowance which is currently £350 per week for accommodation for each week outside London that is more than 25 miles from your home address.  However, this rate is currently being reviewed.

Subsistence: 

As above, the Equity / CTA rate is currently £227.50 per week for accommodation for each week of rehearsals and for the Sadler’s Wells season if you live outside London and can’t commute.

Travel: 

Travel will be paid at the equivalent of a single standard class advance purchase rail fare.
