Main Function

To assist in the creation of productions and projects of the highest artistic standards.

To act as DSM on the book.

To contribute to the smooth and effective running of the Stage Management department.

Main Duties

In Rehearsal

Create a ‘book’ through presence in rehearsals and by communication with the Directors, Designer, Lighting Designer, Composer, Sound Designer or any other creative team members.

Maintain excellent communication between the rehearsal room and the rest of the organisation, by the use of rehearsal notes and production meetings, particularly with matters relating to Health & Safety and which directly affect other departments.

Monitor actors’ hours and inform the Stage Manager / Company Manager of any union related issues which arise.

Maintain the rehearsal room in a suitable condition, and ensure rehearsal props / furniture are in place.

Assist in the creation / realisation of props or furniture.

In Performance

To cue all relevant actions in accordance with the Directors instructions.

Maintain a thorough show report.

Maintain communication with the acting company and relay any issues to the Company Manager.

Health and Safety

Ensuring that Health & Safety legislation is adhered to and that safe working practices are observed in the rehearsal room.

General

To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required by the Company Stage Manager.

Person Specification

Essential

At least 2 years’ experience as a Deputy Stage Manager

Excellent organisational and communication skills

An excellent team player

A positive and motivated individual

Enthusiastic, committed and passionate about the Arts

The ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise work

Ability to work evenings/weekends

Desirable

A full clean driving licence

First Aid training

Terms and Conditions

This is freelance, fixed term contract for services which requires self-employed status.

Fee: £ 530per week (43 hour week, overtime as per Equity agreement). Subsistence ( if applicable) £235 per week

Hours of work: 43 per week over six days, except in designated production weeks when based on a 46 hour week, with evening, weekend or bank holiday work as required.

Overtime: Rates will be based on 1/43rd of the basic weekly wage, except in designated production weeks when based on 1/46th. All conditions as per Equity / UK Theatre agreement.

Holiday: 4 weeks per year or pro-rata for the weeks worked.

Probationary period: 1 month

Notice: 2 weeks, either side to be given in writing.
