It is with great sadness that we share the news of Edwin Shaw’s passing at the age of 88. Edwin was, without question, a true gentleman and a legend of our industry.
Edwin began his illustrious career in 1956 as a 21-year-old box office clerk at the Empire Theatre in Sheffield. He quickly became indispensable to Moss Empires, leading to his transfer to the Victoria Palace, before becoming Box Office Manager at The London Palladium, a position he held for 22 incredibly successful years. Edwin’s unwavering commitment across 61 years of continuous service with Moss Empires, Stoll Moss, Really Useful, SEE Tickets, and LW Theatres until his retirement in 2017 is testament to his passion and dedication.
We will fondly remember Edwin for his cheery good humour, mischievous anecdotes, and total honesty. Yet, what stood out the most was his genuine love for live entertainment and his desire to share his passion and knowledge with everyone around him.
Our thoughts are with Edwin’s friends and family during this difficult time.
Edwin’s contributions will forever be woven into the fabric of our industry, and he will be sorely missed. A true legend of theatreland.
In 2017 Edwin was one of Society of London Theatre’s 6 inaugural “Be Inspired Champions”. Nominated by members of the public and theatre industry, for motivating and inspiring others with their love and commitment to theatre.
