Commenting on the launch of the London Growth Plan, Co-CEO of the Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre, Hannah Essex, said:
“London’s thriving theatre sector is a global powerhouse, attracting millions of domestic and international visitors each year. With its unparalleled programme of diverse and innovative productions, London stands proud as the world capital of theatre, drawing over 17 million theatregoers annually.
“Beyond entertainment, theatre is a major economic driver, generating inward investment and innovation while contributing significantly to London’s economy – where every £1 spent on a ticket generates an additional £1.40 in spending. With 24% of international visitors attending a West End show, theatre plays a crucial role in the city’s tourism industry.
“We are particularly pleased to see a focus on developing the skilled workforce essential to our sector’s success, as well as efforts to enhance the infrastructure and environment that underpins the visitor experience.
“We look forward to collaborating with partners across the city to help bring this vision to life.”
