Overview of Role: Step into the Pride Lands

We are seeking a passionate, driven and motivated individual to lead the Stage Management team for Disney’s The Lion King at London’s Lyceum Theatre.

Responsibilities and Duties: Backstage Brilliance

  • Responsible for the welfare of members of the Company, carrying out department check-ins within the working week.
  • Liaise with the company manager, technical departments, resident creative team, production and general management teams, and venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
  • Responsible for setting up and running rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances, ensuring the creative team and company are supported suitably.
  • Take an active role in teaching new members of staff and deps.
  • Ensure an awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
  • Perform daily setup, oversee stage pre-sets, and communicate clearly with the deputy stage manager and the crew.
  • Manage the backstage and onstage areas during performances, overseeing scene changes to ensure these occur safely.
  • Produce accurate rehearsal schedules and show reports and circulate them accordingly.
  • Maintain the Production as instructed and dictated by the artistic requirements.
  • Create accurate production paperwork and ensure the efficient flow of information as necessary for the smooth running of the show.
  • Familiarise yourself with all plots/tracks within the stage management department to provide holiday or absence cover for other department members as needed.
  • Learn the book and cueing of the performance to provide a safe and consistent cover.
  • Attend weekly Head of Department meetings.
  • Support the Disney marketing and press department in making arrangements for events and backstage tours, attending as necessary.
  • Work in full compliance with Disney’s H&S Policy and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices

Job Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

  • Background: Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production, working alongside an international cast, is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of setting up, maintaining, and operating Stage systems, with a solid understanding of stage management practices and backstage operations.
  • Communication: Clear, confident communication and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Composure: Ability to remain focused and calm under pressure.
  • Leadership: Transparent and open approach; able to work well under pressure and lead by example to motivate and guide the stage team.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong initiative and practical problem-solving abilities to address challenges quickly and efficiently backstage.
  • Desirable: Experience of being “on-the-book” and score reading ability desirable

Additional Information:

  • Contract Type: Fixed-Term
  • Hours: 48 hours per week
  • Start DateLate March 2026 (Exact Date TBC)
  • Schedule: Tuesday to Sunday (evening and weekend show schedule)
  • Health & Safety: This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety Rules & Regulations at the production.
