Sound Operator – Magical Merlin

We’re seeking an experienced Sound Operator with strong musical theatre credits to mix and run performances of Magical Merlin (a family show playing on top of The Mousetrap at St Martin’s Theatre in October half-term) with performances in the morning and afternoon.

You’ll operate a Yamaha QL series desk and handle QLab playback. The ideal person is calm under pressure, collaborative, and used to delivering clean, consistent mixes show after show.
Key responsibilities:

• Operate Yamaha QL desk for rehearsals, tech, and live performances.
• Program, update and fire QLab cues (FX, music stems, vamps, backups).
• Manage radio mics: fitting, frequency coordination, line checks, and rapid swaps.
• Balance vocals, tracks, and FX for a clear, musical mix; maintain show scenes and safe headroom.
• Liaise with Sound Designer, Stage Management, MD/Composer
• Pre-show checks, fault-finding, and swift show-safe troubleshooting

You’ll need:

• Proven musical theatre experience mixing vocals-to-tracks and/or pit.
• Confident operation of Yamaha QL desks (scene management, patching, DCA/Groups).
• Solid QLab skills (playlist structure, auto-follows, redundancy workflows).
• Strong RF knowledge (mic placement, antennae basics, spectrum awareness).
• Excellent comms, teamwork, and time-management.
• Availability for the full run (27 Oct – 2 Nov 2025) plus technical rehearsal on 26th October and 2 days in rehearsal room on 23rd and 24th October.
