The purpose of this role is to execute the vision of the creative team using the appropriate techniques and materials on a range of scenic items. Also to create scenic finishes to scenery and produce scenic finishes and textures to floors, canvas, backdrops and gauzes, using a wide range of scenic skills, processes and materials.
Work is normally carried out in the Scenic Artist Workshop, but you may be required to work elsewhere in the National Theatre or at an outside venue.
The successful candidates will have the following:
- Significant experience as a scenic artist in a professional workshop environment, with broad knowledge and good technical ability in appropriate techniques, finishes, colours and textures
- A strong understanding of health & safety in a busy workshop environment and onstage
- An awareness and commitment to sustainability, practising the ethos of the Theatre Green Book.
- An ability to liaise with designers and production managers to adapt work in accordance with their requirements
- A broad knowledge of styles and periods of painting, architecture and interior design
