Summary

Brixton House is looking for a creative, experienced, and highly organised Producer to join the Artistic team and help realise the creative ambition of our productions and performances. The Producer will be responsible for supporting the overall Artistic Team and most closely the Senior Producer and Executive Creative Producer in producing all aspects of the programme and will liaise and work directly with all internal and external creative teams and artists. They will work closely with the Creative Engagement Producers to ensure all creative output is aligned in conjunction with Brixton House’s ethos, aims and ambitions, alongside the technical and marketing teams to realise the ambitions. The role will support artists and work at various stages of development across a range of cross-art form productions, presentations, R+D’s and commissions. To be responsible for supporting the day-to-day requirements of the programming and producing team and wider organisation. To work with the Senior Producer and Executive Creative Producer to develop long-term strategic relationships with partners to extend our reach, develop new communities and find new places for our work. To support with the development and delivery of Artistic Associates alongside the Senior Producer and Executive Creative Producer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Producing

  • To work with the Senior Producer, Executive Creative Producer and other managers in all planning for productions festivals and one night events , including all advancing.
  • To develop contacts with artists, producers, theatres and other collaborators and organisations
  • To facilitate the creation of artistic work at the highest level, responsible for end to end project delivery and line management of creative and project teams as appropriate, reporting to Executive Creative Producer and Senior Producer.
  • To manage and update the planning diary / Yes plan with all shows, supporting cross departmentally where needed.
  • Provide day to day producing management–ensuring that all work is produced and presented with high quality production values, contracted efficiently and reconciled with the finance team.
  • To support the Programming and producing team, and wider Artistic vision to develop, programme and produce an interesting, engaging, and coherent programme of in-house productions, presentations, and commissions, as agreed with the Executive Creative Producer and P+P team, including ensuring exceptional opportunities for young people to participate and perform with the Creative Engagement department.
  • To proactively seek to provide a positive, supportive, and efficient service to all incoming artists/companies/hirers and other collaborators.
  • To support the Senior Producer to draft and deliver detailed and accurate show information for the organisation including contracts and budgets, leading on these where necessary.
  • To facilitate the programming of each mixed artform season of work with the wider Artistic team, deputising for the Senior Producer where necessary
  • To read all scripts at all stages of development and manage the submission window, supporting the Senior Producer.
  • To support the Senior Producer and Executive creative producer in developing a successful and financially viable model for Theatre 2.
  • To watch work outside of the internal programme and contribute to programming meetings
  • To run planning meetings where required.
  • To act as lead representative at the Operations meeting, updating all departments on activity arising.
  • To deputise for the Senior Producer where necessary.

Administration and Finance

  • To be the point of contact for internal scheduling inquiries.
  • To support the Executive Creative Producer and Senior Producer to ensure the efficient running of Brixton Houses artistic programme through the implementation of effective administrative and financial management systems.
  • To liaise with all Brixton house departments to ensure accurate information is distributed for the successful delivery of all productions and projects.
  • To draft and issue contracts with support from the Senior Producer where required
  • To Support the Senior Producer, with the Head of Finance, to draw up all settlements for royalties and co-production/visiting companies.
  • To keep the contract log up to date, and manage its day to day function.
  • To work with the Senior Producer to reconcile all budgets – overseen by the Executive Creative Producer.
  • To optimise income through effective cost management and negotiating improved deals with visiting companies supported by Senior Producer where necessary.

Marketing, Ticketing and Communication

  • To work with Brixton House’ Marketing and Press team on the delivery of marketing and press campaigns for all productions and season announcements – collating key information in a timely manner
  • To update, when required, internal teams on marketing plans with the marketing team.
  • To supply up to date information to the Marketing team for all marketing and press materials for all spaces and productions
  • To work with the Senior Producer and Marketing Department to set realistic targets for productions
  • To monitor ticket sales and ensure that all holds are correct and released as necessary.
  • When required, to ensure relevant facts and information are provided to Marketing and Communications teams in order that they can tell our story as strongly as possible.

Fundraising 

  • To support the Senior Producer in working with the Development team to raise funds for Brixton House productions from the public sector, corporate sponsors, individuals, and campaigns.
  • Support the Development team, and Executive Creative Producer with the completion of funding applications and all relevant reports for Arts Council and other funders.
  • To support artists with funding applications where necessary.
  • To support the Senior and Executive Producers in their work with the Partnerships & Philanthropy team to identify opportunities and support their efforts to raise funds.

People Management and Development 

  • To line manage, where required, all creative freelances across productions – supported by the Senior Producer
  • To work with the in house technical and production team to identify support freelance staff needed across all productions.
  • To assist in the recruitment of all those involved in delivering artistic productions. This includes all freelance artists, and creatives.
  • Where necessary, to support the Senior Producer to act as the point person between departments in the day-to-day management of productions and to ensure efficient operation between the theatre, front of house teams, office staff and peripatetic activities.
  • To keep up to date with developments and research in producing practice, relevant to the creative industries and where relevant, draw upon such information in planning and programming strategies.

Evaluation 

  • To feed into and support the Senior Producer with evaluation of all productions and projects under the remit of the Artistic department.
  • To continuously contribute to ensuring we evaluate against best practice.

General 

  • To attend read-throughs, sharing’s, Preview, Press and Supporters Nights and other Brixton House events as required.
  • To deputise for the Senior Producer when and where necessary.
  • To advocate for the work of the Artistic team within Brixton House and ensure clear integration into wider processes and procedures across all programmes and departments.
  • As a member of the Programming team, play an active role in organisation-wide activities, including attending and supporting Brixton House events.
  • To promote and comply with current legislation and the Brixton House policies on Equality, Diversity and Health & Safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.
  • To promote, develop and comply with our policies and practices to lessen the environmental impact of Brixton House.
  • To be responsible for identifying and undertaking own training and personal development to meet business needs.
  • To be an active member of internal working groups.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties, commensurate with the level of the post to ensure the smooth running of Brixton House.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Proven track record and experience of producing small and mid-scale shows and works in development – co productions, commissions, presentations and in house produced works.
  • Experience as Producer of new writing, and new work across multi artforms
  • Proven track record of arts management experience.
  • A commitment to and enthusiasm for encouraging participation in the performing arts amongst young people.
  • Ability and passion for working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills in person and in writing.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Experience of working in a collaborative manner to achieve the required outcomes.
