Disney’s The Lion King – Wardrobe Swing Assistant (Job Share)

This role is an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Wardrobe dept on Disney’s The Lion King for a short term basis as part of a job share. Working with the Wardrobe dept, this assistant will help with the day to day of running a large scale musical to maintain the excellence of the show. Previous experience isn’t required.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Wardrobe to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances
  • Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Wardrobe on any day-to-day changes that might impact the running of the Production
  • Support team members in teaching workroom skills
  • Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Wardrobe to teach new members of staff, deps and local dressers and wardrobe maintenance staff and work closely with theatre staff at the touring venues to ensure the smooth running of the production and safe handling of costumes
  • Perform daily setup and Wardrobe pre-sets
  • Ensure an awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments
  • Maintain and clean costumes so they are in working order for each performance
  • Attend Weekly maintenance shifts
  • Assist in costume fittings when required to do so
  • Learn and execute 14 Dressing tracks
  • Attend rehearsal, technical, dress and understudy rehearsals as required
  • Maintaining, clean and repair Costumes as instructed and dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the Head and Deputy Head of Wardrobe of Wardrobe, Production Manager and Resident Creative Team
  • Handle any problems that occur during performances quickly and calmly.
  • Report and feedback show and staff related issues in a timely manner.
  • Work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and maintain a good working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practices.
  • Liaise closely with Disney’s Health and Safety Manager to ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is followed
Skills Required:
·       Strong technical sewing skills (machine & hand) with knowledge of various textiles

·       Ability to remain focused and calm when under pressure

·       Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills with cast, creative and production team essential

·       Excellent problem-solving skills and use of own initiative

·       A full awareness of need for integrity and confidentiality

·       Extensive knowledge of costume construction and ability to sew and alter garments

·       Have an understanding of different materials and components including Silk, Spandex, fabric surface painting, beading and zippers

·       Knowledge of laundering and maintaining stage costumes

·       Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production working with an international cast is highly desirable

Additional Information
·       Six month contract ending in November 2025

·       Job share

·       Weekend and evening work integral (Tuesday to Sunday show schedule).

·       This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and safety rules & regulations in place at the production.
