We are seeking a passionate, driven and motivated individual to join the Lighting department for Disney’s The Lion King at London’s Lyceum Theatre.

 

As Deputy Head of Lighting, you’ll work with the Head of Lighting, Production Manager, General and Company Management. Your focus will be on supporting the smooth running of production through effective communication and maintaining continuity across all lighting elements to ensure seamless backstage operations.

Responsibilities and Duties: 
  • Manage, supervise, and schedule members of the lighting team under the supervision of your Head of Department.
  • Operate the lighting desk for performances or rehearsals, replicating the show’s lighting design
  • Perform daily setup, oversee lighting rig checks, provide communication within lighting team.
  • Assisting with the operation and maintenance of all equipment used by your department, including equipment checks prior to each performance, as requested by your Head of Department
  • Assist the Head of Lighting to create accurate production paperwork and ensure the efficient flow of information as necessary for the smooth running of the show.
  • Acquiring a familiarity with all plots/tracks within your department so that you are able to provide holiday or absence cover for other members of your department if required,
  • Assist the Head of Lighting to teach new members of staff, deps and local crews, work closely with theatre staff to ensure the smooth running of the production.
  • Handle any problems that occur during performances quickly and calmly.
  • Report and feedback show and staff related issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Head of Lighting, liaising between Company Manager, Technical departments, Creative Team, Production and General Management Teams and local venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
  • Maintain the Production as instructed and dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the production manager and resident creative team.
  • Assisting your Head of Department in compiling and keeping updated cue sheets and other relevant show paperwork, both soft and hard copy, to such a level as to ensure an accurate reference to allow the Production to be remounted at a later date
  • Attending rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs as required by your Head of Department or the Company Manager, including emergency calls in the event of equipment failure or other incident, particularly if there is a risk of the cancellation of a performance
  • Deputising for the Head of Department in their absence, if requested
  • Work in full compliance with Disney’s Health and Safety Policy and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Working in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include working at height, using appropriate safety equipment and clothing and attending any training deemed necessary
  • Contributing to risk assessments for all electrics related activities, including PAT testing
  • Servicing of cables, other stage equipment and all electrical and sound equipment, including portable appliances in compliance with Electricity at Work Act, and maintaining accurate records thereof.
  • Maintaining COSHH, LOLER and any other Health & Safety records relevant to the department as required and directed by the Head of Lighting.

 

What We’re Looking For:
·       Background: Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production, working alongside an international cast, is highly desirable.

·       Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of setting up, maintaining, and operating lighting systems, with the ability to programme on ETC desks, including knowledge on video, PAT Testing, network and dimmers.

·       Working at Height: Comfortable with working at height and use of genies as part of daily responsibilities.

·       Interpersonal Skills: Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills with your LX team, cast, creative, and production teams are essential.

·       Communication: Clear and confident communicator, with the ability to make informed decisions and collaborate effectively with LX team, cast, creative, and production teams.

·       Problem-Solving: Excellent initiative and practical problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure backstage situations.

·       Calm Under Pressure: Able to handle issues that arise during performances with focus, professionalism, and composure.

·       Integrity & Confidentiality: Full awareness of the need for integrity and confidentiality.
