We are looking for applicants with previous Deputy Stage Management
experience. The role requires someone who has exceptional people skills and can work in a highly
pressured environment. Knowledge and experience of the working practices of a touring production
are highly desirable. Last minute cast changes are normal on this production, so applicants must be
able to adapt quickly.
Job Description:
To call each performance;
To create and maintain up–to–date prompt copy, to include blocking, any script changes, all technical
cues and any other relevant information (such as contingencies);
To work closely with the Company Manager and Director/Associate Director to schedule and co–
ordinate rehearsals and ensure the rehearsal room or stage is set–up appropriately prior to their
commencement;
To deputise for the Stage Manager where necessary;
To teach the book to the book cover;
To assist the Company Manager and Stage Manager in compiling show paperwork including but not
limited to rehearsal calls, rehearsal / show reports, cue sheets and other paperwork relative to the
prompt copy;
Working in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include any training
deemed necessary;
Complying at all times with the rules and regulations in force at the venues under the control of the
Production;
Having a practical understanding of the Producer’s employment policies and demonstrating a
willingness to comply with these policies;
Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Deputy Stage Manager based
on industry norms and practice.
Person Specification:
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
A proactive and flexible attitude;
Previous experience of UK Touring;
Previous experience of working as part of a team;
The ability to work well with actors and creative team;
The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
Awareness of current health & safety legislation;
Strong working knowledge of UK Theatre & SOLT Equity and BECTU agreements
