Salary: £850 per week
Contract: Fixed Term SOLT/BECTU Contract
Contract Dates: w/c 13th April 2026 (TBC) – 18th July 2026
Rehearsals/Get In: w/c 13th April 2026
Tech: w/c 20th April 2026
Performances: 25th April – 18th July 2026
Show schedule: Performances are 6 days per week, typically Monday – Saturday. The performance schedule shall be confirmed at point of contract.
Holiday: As per the SOLT/BECTU Agreement (32 days per full calendar year). There will be a holiday embargo across this contract and any accrued holiday shall be paid out at the end of contract.

Personal attributes: We are looking for applicants with previous Deputy Head of Wardrobe experience on a musical. Candidates must be prepared to undertake physically demanding tasks and have excellent sewing skills. Candidates must also have the ability to work flexibly in high pressure environments, and be experienced in undertaking dressing / quick change plots.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To assist the Head of Wardrobe in the running of the department throughout rehearsals, tech and performances;
- To attend rehearsals and fittings as mutually agreed between us, your department, and the Costume Designer and/or Costume Supervisor;
- To uphold the high production standards set by the Costume Designer and maintain the artistic quality of the original design;
- To be responsible for the good maintenance of all costumes, ensuring that costumes are maintained at a high standard, as directed by the Head of Wardrobe;
- To assist with the laundry of the costumes and arrangement of dry cleaning as appropriate;
- To assist the cast with dressing for each performance;
- To undertake a dressing plot during each performance, including assisting the cast with any quick changes, as required;
- To deputise for the Head of Wardrobe, stepping up to cover them when required;
- To teach your track to the Wardrobe Assistant, and other members of your department, to ensure they are able to cover for you if required;
- To assist in the ordering and replenishing of departmental supplies as needed;
- To liaise as needed with the Costume Supervisor in regard to any replacements, alterations or repairs needed for the costumes;
- To assist in training department deps to ensure there is sufficient cover for you and for your department for any periods of absence;
- To work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production and rehearsals;
- To ensure all Wardrobe equipment and backstage areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner;
- To provide support for all rehearsals, promotional/marketing events and other calls as required;
- To ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times and that all Health and Safety procedures and practises are adhered to;
- To be a proactive member of the technical team and support the wider team;
- To assist in compiling and keeping up-to-date all necessary show paperwork (including the Costume Bible) both in hard copy and digital;
- To obtain where possible VAT invoices for any hires and purchases made through petty cash;
- To maintain the department Health and Safety record and good housekeeping procedure;
- To comply at all times with the rules and regulations in force at the venues under the control of the Production;
- To work in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include any training deemed necessary;
- Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Deputy Head of Wardrobe based on industry norms and practice, or as directed by the Costume Designer, Costume Supervisor, Head of Wardrobe, Production Manager, Company Manager, Producers or General Managers.
Person Specification:
- Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role in the West End or on Tour;
- Previous experience of working on a West End musical;
- Excellent sewing skills;
- Experience with theatrical costume and a good knowledge of working with a range of materials;
- Experience of costume maintenance;
- Experience of dressing, particularly quick changes;
- Be prepared to undertake physically demanding tasks;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
- A proactive and flexible attitude;
- The ability to work closely with actors and creative teams, and handle confidential information with discretion;
- The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
- Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation;
- Knowledge of SOLT BECTU agreements.
