Overview of Role: Step into the Spotlight
We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join the Wardrobe department for Disney’s The Lion King at London’s Lyceum.

As Deputy Head of Wardrobe, you’ll report to the Head of Wardrobe. Your focus will be on supporting the management, maintenance, and smooth operation of costumes and wardrobe operations during rehearsals and performances, ensuring every character looks their best on stage.

Your Role in the Circle of Life

  • Assist the Head of Wardrobe, liaising between the Company Manager, Technical departments, Creative Team, Production, and General Management Teams to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist the Head of Wardrobe with day-to-day costume and wardrobe management, including supervising and scheduling members of the wardrobe team.
  • Perform daily setup and oversee wardrobe pre-sets.
  • Ensure awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary costume adjustments.
  • Maintain and repair costumes as required, ensuring all items are in working order and meet the artistic standards set by the Head of Wardrobe, Production and Creative Team.
  • Conduct costume fittings when required.
  • Attend rehearsal, technical, dress, and understudy rehearsals as necessary.
  • Take an active role in training new wardrobe staff to ensure the smooth running of the production and safe handling of costumes.
  • Report and provide timely feedback on show- and staff-related issues.
  • Assist the Head of Wardrobe in creating accurate production paperwork and maintaining the efficient flow of information for smooth departmental operations.
  • Acquire familiarity with all wardrobe plots/tracks to provide holiday or absence cover for other department members as required.
  • Attend weekly Head of Department meetings in the absence of the Head of Wardrobe.
  • Work in full compliance with Disney’s H&S Policy and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Background: Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production.
  • Costume Construction: Extensive expertise in costume construction, with advanced sewing, garment alteration, and costume problem-solving skills.
  • Costume Maintenance: Strong proficiency in the care, maintenance, and laundering of stage costumes, ensuring consistency, longevity, and performance readiness.
  • Material Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of costume construction, including sewing, alterations, and handling a variety of materials and components such as silk, spandex, fabric surface painting, beading, and zippers.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships across departments.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent initiative and practical problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure backstage situations.
  • Calm Under Pressure: Able to handle issues that arise during performances with focus and professionalism.
  • Communication: Clear and confident communicator, with the ability to make informed decisions and collaborate effectively with cast, creative, and production teams.
  • Health & Safety: Solid understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices within a backstage environment.

Additional Information

  • Contract Type: Fixed-Term
  • Hours: 48 hours per week
  • Schedule: Tuesday to Sunday (evening and weekend show schedule)
  • Health & Safety: This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety Rules & Regulations at the production.
