Personal Attributes: We are looking for applicants with previous Deputy Head of Wardrobe experience
or experience working in a Wardrobe capacity on a new production. The role requires someone with
excellent technical skills and the ability to work in high pressure environments. Candidates must have
excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Job Description:
To pre-set the costumes before each performance of the production.
To assist the Head of Wardrobe in the repair and general maintenance of all show costumes.
To aid the cast with costume changes during performances.
To be responsible for emergency costume repairs or malfunctions during performances, if required.
To liaise with the Head of Wardrobe and be responsible for gathering costumes for cover actors and
assisting in dressing them during performances, if required.
To be a proactive member of the technical team and to support the wider team.
To support the Head of Wardrobe in cleaning and laundering all costumes at the required frequency
to maintain their appearance.
To assist the Head of Wardrobe with get-ins and get-outs.
To learn and follow the dressing plots as set out by the show.
To become familiar with all plots/tracks within the wardrobe department in order to provide holiday or
absence cover for other team members.
To assist the Head of Wardrobe in compiling and updating cue sheets and other relevant show
documentation.
To support the Head of Wardrobe in maintaining the department’s COSHH records and Health &
Safety protocols, and to uphold good housekeeping practices.
To ensure your working environment is kept clean, tidy, and safe.
To work collaboratively with all other departments to ensure the smooth running of the production.
To proactively identify costume maintenance tasks and liaise with the Head of Wardrobe to take
responsibility for completing them.
To undertake any other reasonable duties that would typically fall within the remit of a Deputy Head of
Wardrobe, in line with industry norms and practices.
Person Specification:
Demonstrable professional experience in wardrobe maintenance and dressing actors on a production
of a similar scale, ideally on tour or in the West End;
Strong sewing and costume maintenance skills;
A respectful and considerate approach to others, particularly given the potentially sensitive nature of
wardrobe and costume work;
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
A proactive and flexible attitude;
Previous experience of UK Touring;
Previous experience of working as part of a team;
The ability to work well with actors and creative team;
The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
Awareness of current health & safety legislation;
Strong working knowledge of UK Theatre & SOLT Equity and BECTU agreements.
