Chichester Future Theatre-makers
Part time – flexible
20 month programme
Open to theatre makers from multiple disciplines, up to five early career artists or companies will be offered a tailored, part-time, and flexible 20-month programme that develops their skills, makes vital connections to other industry professionals, offers scratch performances in its newly built venue The Nest, and delivers a performance piece at the end of the 20 months that will add to their emerging portfolio of work.
The participants will receive a grant of up to £10,500 to enable them to devote adequate time to the programme, plus travel and accommodation costs. Led by CFT’s Artistic Director Justin Audibert and Creative Associate Sophie Hobson, and supported by the wider CFT team, the programme will be targeted at local artists from East Sussex, West Sussex, and Hampshire.
Each artist will create a professional development plan; be assigned a mentor from CFT or the freelance community; and receive a series of workshops led by Justin Audibert and other leading industry professionals. The artists will also receive access to observe rehearsals, tickets for performances at CFT, focused periods of research and development to work on their chosen project with up to four collaborators, paid for by CFT, and rehearsal space and performance opportunities in The Nest.
Who we’re looking for:
This programme is for theatre makers aged 18+ who have a clear and exciting idea for a piece of work and would like to have the space, time, resources, and mentors to help achieve this. We define ‘early career’ as:
- Artists new to their discipline or companies who are newly formed
- Those with no more than five professional credits on a production
- Those who have been practising their discipline for no more than five years
- Companies of no more than four individuals
(Previous experience in a different area does not affect whether an artist is ‘early career’; for example, an established actor could be an early career director.)
