Sustainability
We provide our members with advice and guidance on a range of subjects relating to sustainability. We aim to ensure high standards of sustainability throughout the industry, helping members to look inside their organisations and establish, or improve, their sustainability policies and procedures.
Member Benefits
Membership of SOLT gives you free access to advice and support from our industry experts. Your membership entitles you to ad hoc advice by phone or email, as well as through site visits to your venue. Members who feel they would benefit from longer-term support are able to arrange this at a reduced, additional rate.
Member Groups
We provide opportunities for our members to come together to share advice, concerns and findings through our sustainability forum. The forum meets in several different formats, and allows venues from across the UK to share sustainability concerns and advice.
We are currently in the process of remodelling our forum to best reflect the needs of our members. Members can sign-up via the button below (viewable only when logged in):

Industry-Wide Work
We work to assist the theatre industry in promoting and improving sustainability, making sure that our members’ interests are represented to decision-makers.
We engage with key stakeholders across the industry to support our members’ interests, and our staff Co-Chair the Theatre Green Book Operations Working Group, as well as sitting on the Theatre Greenbook steering committee. We also send a representative to the Creative Industries Council Climate Group.
Sustainability Statement
SOLT places sustainability at the core of its values, recognising climate change as a critical issue and we will collaborate with members and stakeholders to enhance practices within the sector. Our members are already making significant changes to mitigate their impact and our support of initiatives like the Theatre Green Book continues to inspire positive change. SOLT strives to lead by example, implementing sustainable practices into our own activities and events while advocating for policies that support the well-being of people and the planet. Through active member engagement, we aim to create a more sustainable industry where environmental best practices are integrated into all aspects of theatre production, building management and operations. We have four new sustainability focused commitments:
- Empowering Members: We will educate and engage with members to inspire change and collective action. Our workshops, forums and resources, will provide the knowledge and tools members need to adopt sustainable practices. We will help members improve their environmental performance by adopting new methods of working wherever practicable. Later this year we will be launching an exciting new course IOSH Environment for Business. This will give delegates industry insights and practical guidance on how to integrate environmental management and sustainability into everyday business activities. For more information or express interest in this course please contact members@soltukt.co.uk.
- Collaboration and Partnerships: We continue to collaborate with partnership both within membership and with external stakeholders. We will actively seek out new opportunities to work with other industries, businesses and government agencies that share our commitment to sustainability. By pooling our resources and expertise, we can amplify our impact and drive positive change.
- Setting Standards: We will work with members to achieve Theatre Green Book baseline standards. The standards will help reduce environmental footprints, resource use and enhance reputations with eco-conscious consumers. Our internal sustainability committee, continues to review our own operations and we will adapt practices to improve our environmental performance, in line with the Green Book guidance, wherever possible.
- Promoting Sustainable Events and Activities: We host a variety of events and activities throughout the year and recognise the potential impact of these gatherings, so we are committed to minimizing it wherever possible. By promoting eco-friendly practices at our events, we can demonstrate our commitments to sustainability and hopefully inspire our members to do the same.
