Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for an experienced Assistant Movement Director to work on the 2025 London recast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this new play by Jack Thorne and Directed by John Tiffany received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.
Your duties and responsibilities will be those normally expected of an Assistant Movement Director on a first-class West End production.
You will work closely with the Associate Director, Associate Movement Director and Resident Movement Director across recast, technical and understudy rehearsals, supporting them to simultaneously rehearse new and continuing company members and maintain the quality of the performances.

6th October – 12th October Technical Rehearsals

20th October – 7th December 2025 Cover Rehearsals (two days per week)
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assist in rehearsal supervision and directing movement sequences and blocking
- Assist the Resident Movement Director to ensure that the movement style aligns with the vision of the production
- Assist in preparing and leading rehearsals; assist in providing coaching for actors to help them develop movement skills
- Ensuing that all physical activities during rehearsals and performances are safe and minimize the risk of injury.
- Liaising with company management to support with scheduling, gathering and sharing research materials
- Liaising with creatives and technical departments, Supporting with young company rehearsal during the recast period, supporting with (and leading where required) understudy rehearsals including tech and dress rehearsals of the Understudy company, attending the theatre to note performances, running pre performance rehearsals and generally supporting the directors as otherwise required.
Experience as Assistant Movement Director on a professional production is desirable.

Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract.
Job Location: Central London.
Contract Type: Fixed Term until Sunday 19th October
Salary: Weekly salary of £900 per week, pro-rated in cover rehearsals.
Weekly Hours: Five days per week, Monday to Friday including some evening work. Please note your five day working schedule will include some weekend days during the first four weeks.
