Kids Week, the annual London theatre initiative run by the Society of London Theatre, has begun, with more than 35 shows offering free tickets for children. This year marks the 20th Kids Week, which began in 1998 and over the years has reached over 1.2 million children and families.
Kids Week, one of the world’s longest running audience development initiatives, encourages young people to experience live theatre. During Kids Week one child aged 16 or under can go free to a wide range of participating shows when accompanied by an adult paying full price. In addition two extra children can go for half price, and there are no booking, postage or transaction fees. This year Kids Week has already issued almost 160,000 tickets with over 60,000 tickets remaining for performances across the month.
Kids Week also has a fantastic range of free activities and events which includes everything from storytelling and backstage tours to choreography and stage combat workshops. The full activity listings can be found at KidsWeek.co.uk
Additionally, Kids Week ticket holders will be able to take advantage of a number of Kids Go Free deals on dining, tours and hotels. More information can be found on the Kids Week website.
Kenny Wax, President of the Society of London Theatre, said:
"Starting today theatres across London are offering free tickets for kids with a full paying adult for the month of August. Nothing can fire a child’s imagination more than the magic of live performance and with 60,000 tickets still available, there are many varied productions, from musicals to plays, and comedies to thrillers with which to fill the long Summer holidays”.
