Unremunerated - voluntary post
Trustees and Directors, Cumbria Theatre Trust
We are seeking trustees/directors with a passion for theatre, the arts in general and act as a proactive advocate for our theatre and the positive impact of our work upon people’s lives.
Cumbria Theatre Trust operates Theatre by the Lake, a rural theatre with national impact, supported by Café by the Lake, a distinctive eatery adjoining the theatre.
We are a year-round producing theatre situated a short stroll from Derwentwater in Keswick, set against the magnificent backdrop of the western fells of the Lake District. We are the winner of UK Theatre Awards’ Most Welcoming Theatre in the North West for the past four years, and have been hailed by The Independent as ‘the most beautifully located and friendly theatre in Britain’.
Each year we stage a busy, nationally recognised programme of home-produced work, productions by visiting companies, and festivals, playing to over 120,000 people. We are a creative hub for the communities of Cumbria, with learning and education programmes which broaden access to our work on stage, and tackle issues of rural isolation.
Over the next five years, we have ambitious plans to grow audiences, in Keswick, regionally and nationally, through increased touring and partnership, working under the leadership of a new joint chief executive.
We need Trustees with the insight, knowledge and experience to complement the skills and abilities of our existing Board. Applications from those with experience of fundraising strategy and delivery, the development of tourism and/or creative businesses, and business leadership would be of particular interest.
Board Members, TBTL Services Ltd
TBTL Services Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cumbria Theatre Trust, responsible for the management of ancillary trading at Theatre by the Lake. This includes the operation of our 100-cover café restaurant adjacent to the theatre and a theatre café bar.
We need Directors with experience of commercial trading within the food and beverage/hospitality sector. Additional experience of retail would be an advantage.
Cumbria Theatre Trust is committed to developing its Trustees, Directors and staff to reflect the diversity of Britain. Applications from women and/or individuals who identify as BAME would be of particular interest to the Trust as these perspectives are currently under represented within our Board.
All roles are voluntary.
If you are interested in either opportunity, please visit our website and/or contact Angela Fairburn, HR & Admin Officer, on 017687 72282 ext 237 to arrange an informal discussion about the roles.
