Improbable is seeking a Producer to join the company four days a week.
Lead by Artistic Directors Phelim McDermott and Lee Simpson, Improbable is a theatre company that defies categorisation. We present shows on every scale from sumptuous productions in the great opera houses to improvisation gigs in the tiniest venues; are at the forefront of arts activism through Devoted & Disgruntled and create groundbreaking participation work. At the heart of all of our work is the practice and philosophy of improvisation.
In the last year we’ve worked on the small scale (e.g. BambinO, an opera for 6-18 month old babies), medium scale (e.g. Opening Skinner’s Box, a devised piece about experiments that changed the course of history) and large scale (e.g. Satyagraha with ENO and The Met), across theatre and opera, at home and abroad. Alongside our shows we produce Devoted & Disgruntled, an ongoing conversation about the future of theatre and the performing arts; create an increasingly broad programme of workshops and participation projects; and run the International Institute of Improvisation (the iii), connecting improvisation in fields within and beyond the creative industries. Our plans for the coming years look likely to be some of our most exciting and ambitious.
Improbable was founded in 1996, became a charity in 2014, and is a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England 2018-22.
The Producer will be a new role in the company and will work across the different strands of our work, helping us to think about them and co-ordinate them in a more cohesive way. It is a part-time role at four days/week, for an initial contract of 12 months.
